President Trump, the USDA, and Climate Change

Allegedly, language is a trait that separates the human race from all other life forms on planet Earth.Not too long ago, the late Mark Twain once remarked on the potential impact of human language:  “The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter—it’s the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.[1]As such, Twain suggests that language is a medium that conveys meaning into the minds of human beings. * * * Recently, The Guardian reported that managerial staff at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has asked its support personnel who work within the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to consider using different words when referencing climate change.[2]The NRCS, as the USDA states, “provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain and improve our natural resources and environment [i.e., the NRCS works with farmers—be they small, medium-size, or large].”[3]In its Mission Stateme…
